Expectations can cause feelings of disappointment from the point of view of the one with the expectation.
It often comes with a feeling of not being good enough from the one the expectation has been put on.
So often our expectations go unmet—not due to a lack of love from the other, but due to our own inability to live up to those expectations ourselves.
“I expect you to listen to me when I’m talking to you.”
I expect MYSELF to listen to YOU when you’re talking, too. Am I?
I expect MYSELF to listen to OTHERS when they are talking. Am I?
I expect MYSELF to listen to ME. Am I?
If you can’t meet your own expectations, can you expect someone else to meet them for you?
